Our global mission
The Journal of Public Space (ISSN 2206-9658 registered in Italy) is a research project developed by City Space Architecture, a non-profit organization based (Italy), in partnership with UN-Habitat, the United Nations Human Settlements Programme (Kenya). It is the first, academic, interdisciplinary and open access journal entirely dedicated to public space.
As a proper public space, The Journal of Public Space is free, accessible and inclusive, providing a platform for emerging and consolidated researchers; it is intended to foster research, showcase best practices and inform discussion about the more and more important issues related to public spaces in our changing and evolving societies.
It is committed to expand current scholarship by offering a global perspective and providing the opportunity for unheard countries to speak up and to discuss neglected as well as emerging topics that are usually sidelined in mainstream knowledge.
The Journal of Public Space is open to embracing diversity, inconvenient dialogues and untold stories from multidisciplinary fields and all countries, especially from those that usually do not have a voice, overcoming the Western-oriented approach that is leading the current discourse.
Impact
The Journal of Public Space is indexed in Scopus and SJR SCImago Journal Rankings (Q2 for Arts and Humanities, Q3 for Geography, Planning and Development, Social Sciences and Urban Studies).
It is also rated by ANVUR – National Italian agency for the evaluation of universities and research as a “CLASS A” Journal for the Areas 08/F1 – Urban Planning and Design and 10/C1 – Theatre, Music, Cinema, Television, and Audiovisual Media. It is ranked by ANVUR as a “Scientific Journal” for Area 08 – Civil Engineering and Architecture and Area 10 – Antiquities, Philology, Literary Studies, Art History.
It is included in DOAJ – Directory of Open Access Journals.
It is licensed under a Creative Commons Attribution-NonCommercial 4.0 International License. It is published through an Open Journal Systems as part of the Public Knowledge Project (PKP).
Diamond Open Access Journal
The Journal of Public Space is a Diamond Open Access Journal; we don’t ask for APCs (Article Processing Charges) from our authors. Nobody is paying, neither for publishing nor for reading. Our Editor-in-Chief and our Editorial Team are not paid; they all volunteer their time to accomplish our mission.
The Journal of Public Space is included in the Diamond Discovery Hub (DDH), and our publisher, City Space Architecture, is mapped as part of the Registry of the European Diamond Capacity Hub (EDCH), a free and comprehensive resource designed to foster collaborations within the Diamond Open Access landscape in the European Research Area, contributing to a stronger, more visible and sustainable ecosystem for non‑commercial open access publishing.
